MBK 411
A NEW BREED OF NEWS AND ENTERTAINMENT.
MBK 411 UP CLOSE and personal
One of the goals that we want our media students to accomplish is to be able to conduct a professional interview with actual professionals. We want them to not only know how to ask the right questions, but also be able to LISTEN and immediately process answers in order to create intriguing conversation. Hopefully these skills will become lifelong tools that our students can use in any profession. Check out our interviews here on our MBK411 Up Close page!
Dr. Adam Seldow, Director of Technology for CCPS
Dr. Seldow was kind enough to take the time out of his busy schedule so that we were able to get the latest scoop on the technological world of CCPS! Brittany gets a chance to ask Dr. Seldow about his blog, the latest technological developments, what kind of devices we can expect to see in the near future, and why the technology department chooses certain pathways rather than others.
The coolest part about the interview was finding out about Dr. Seldow's personal favorites: his favorite food, movies, books, music, etc. Be sure to check out this fun and informative interview with Dr. Seldow to find out where technology is heading for Chesterfield County Public Schools!
Dr. Vanetta Kai Kennedy,
This was a great interview for our student body to witness because Dr. Kennedy is a Meadowbrook graduate, Class of 1998. V. Kai Kennedy, PT, DPT received a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland in College Park and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University.
She has worked in outpatient and sports medicine settings throughout Virginia and joined the team at Tidewater Physical Therapy in 2005. Today she is the Clinical Director of Tidewater Physical Therapy’s Ironbridge clinic near Richmond.
Kai and Brittany shared many of the same passions in high school which made for a great interview. Watching their conversation would make you think that the two of them actually went to school together. This is a definite must see!
Communicating the Arts
Lane Casadonte (wtvr Channel 6), Andy Edmunds (Central VA Film Office), and Lisa Schaufner (formerly with wric Channel 8) all deliver some great insight on what it takes to make it in the broadcasting/journalism/filmmaking world. Each one of these individuals is well established in his/her respective profession and the advice that they willingly deliver is priceless. If you're interested in a career dealing with arts and communication, then this video is a gold mine!
GRAP Aquatics Facility - Adam Kennedy, Ex. Director
We visited the Collegiate Aquatics Swimming Facility to catch up with Executive Director Adam Kennedy on what their facility has to offer the community. Mr. Kennedy informs MBK411 about the many services and programs that GRAP offers to swimmers of all levels and all ages. One of their big initiatives is teaching the youth of Richmond, VA how to swim in order to drastically reduce the number of deaths caused by drownings. This is an amazing facility which offers tremendous opportunities.
*Special thanks to HumanStory for additional b-roll footage included in this segment.
Dr. Marcus J. Newsome, Superintendent for CCPS
Dr. Newsome has a lot on his plate and the least of which is being interviewed by a high school news program. That's why we felt extremely privileged to sit down with Dr. Newsome and discuss the hot topic within Chesterfield County Public Schools: THE BUDGET! That's right, Dr. Newsome broke it down for the public in this interview with MBK 411's Brittany Nicholson. He informed us on the amount of money involved in next year's budget, how it was acquired, what percentage is used for different functions within the school system and the determining factors on how much money each school gets in CCPS. He was also able to shed some light on how CCPS compares to neighboring school districts when looking at the respective fiscal budgets.
And you know we couldn't do an interview with Dr. Newsome without putting him in the Hot Seat! He definitely has some great answers that are intriguing and surprising. Be sure to check out this episode of Up Close & Personal to find out what Dr. Newsome is all about!
Mr. Randy West, 2014 MBK Teacher of the Year
Just watch.
Dr. Thomas E. Ferrell, Jr, Principal of Meadowbrook High School (2008-2013)
Dr. Ferrell has helped revived some life to the Monarch pulse and it's going to be sad to see him leave. But, before he heads out, MBK Media had to get him in the hot seat. That's right, and he gets a heavy dose of hot seat questions in this interview. THANK you for everything Dr. Ferrell and best wishes on your future endeavors! Once a Monarch, always a Monarch!
