VHSL Broadcasting "Trophy Class" State Championship

October 2013

 

The Meadowbrook High School Media Program was awarded the only Trophy Class ranking in the Inaugural Year for the Broadcasting Division of VHSL Publications.  MBK411, our student-based news show received the recognition at the 2013 VHSL Publications Conference in Richmond, VA on October 11, 2013.  What an amazing honor to not only receive a Trophy Class ranking, but to be the ONLY Trophy Class in the first year of the competition!  MBK Media has the privilege of being the First Broadcasting State Champions in the state of Virginia! 

34th Annual Telly Awards

This past spring the MBK Media Program received two Bronze Telly awards for their short film, Crime Solvers: Protecting Your Community, Anonymously.  MBK Media was recognized by many local media outlets for their work with Crime Solvers including NBC12 and Fox35.  A tremendous honor for a high school media program to receive recognition for this prestigious award, the Monarchs have truly stepped up their media game!

Virginia Crime Stoppers Association
December 2012

For their amazing work on the Crime Solvers short film and the Crime Solvers Golf Tournament Fundraising PSA, the Meadowbrook Media Program was recognized as the Virginia Crime Stoppers Association Media Representative of the Year.  Working with the Crime Solvers organization has been a great partnership and we hope that our relationship will continue to grow!

The Chesterfield Times Dispatch, a branch of the Richmond Times Dispatch, covered our program's recognition as State Champions in the Broadcast Competition of the VHSL Publications/Activities Division.  The CTD gave us a huge amount of love and we are so grateful for it!  A huge thanks to Drew Jackson for writing the story on us and doing such an amazing job!

NBC 12 Highlights MBK Media Program

MEGA Mentors 2013 School of the Year Award

The MEGA Mentors organization approached the MBK Media Program in the latter part of the 2012-13 school year to partner on some visual outreach.  Our students have had many great opportunities to record some wonderful events that have been hosted by MEGA Mentors and the experience has only helped our students grow in video production.  We are very fortunate to have a relationship with MEGA Mentors and to be able to help them achieve their goals of providing successful pathways to students in Chesterfield County! 

EDMODO
April 2013

EDMODO gratefully recognized the MBK Media Program with a shoutout on their Blog Page as well as some comfy hoodies for their creation of EDMODO: The Essential Educational Network, a video that highlights the effective ways EDMODO can be used in the classroom in reference to teaching with technology, or more commonly known as blended learning.  Click on the button below to see how Meadowbrook Teachers are incorporating EDMODO into the classroom curriculum! 

Chesterfield County Outstanding Youth Awards
June 2013

These Meadowbrook students are some of Chesterfield's Finest!  All of these mbk students were awarded for their outstanding and selfless commitment to the betterment of Chesterfield County. Two of the students, Gerard Johnson and Brittany Nicholson, are both in the MBK Media Program. Brittany was awarded for her contribution to the safety of Chestefield County by producing the Crime Solvers Promotional video, Crime Solvers: Protecting Your Community, Anonymously, which is being used as an instructional tool across the county to teach individuals how to make a crime tip and keep Chesterfield a safe environment.  To see our feature of the awards ceremony click on the button below!

35th Annual Telly Awards

We did it again!  MBK Media has been awarded two more Bronze Telly Awards for their video, m5k: A Dangerous Collision. This video is special to us because Demond Bailey is a great young man, and he is in the MBK Media Program!  Although we have only produced one m5k segment, we hope to continue this series in the near future.  Thanks to all who provided support for the creation of this video!

MBK is HAPPY, and now the world knows about it!

In an effort to raise more awareness about MBK's 2014 Dance Marathon coming up on Saturday, May 3rd, the MBK Media Program joined the world with obsession of Pharrell William's new hit, Happy.  We decided to put together our own Happy video to promote the Dance Marathon and to show how Happy we are at MBK.  Little did we know that it would get picked up by local news outlets in and outside of Richmond (DC & Florida!), and on Inside Edition!!!  Now that is something to be HAPPY about!  Be on the lookout for the Inside Edition segment to appear on this website in the near future!

 

ACT-SO Competition in Richmond, VA

​ April 2014

Our very own Jeremiah Banks (in no relation to Carlton Banks!) just received the first place gold medal in the visual arts category of the ACT-SO Competition held in Richmond, VA, this past weekend.  To make things even better, there were seven other Meadowbrook students who took home the first place gold medals in their categories as well!  What amazing talent we have here at the Brook!  These contestants and their work will now go on to the national competition. 

Jeremiah's film, Beauty Inside, will be posted online once the entire competition is complete.  Be sure to check back with us to view his award-winning film!  MBK Media is very proud of you Jeremiah!!!

 

The Heart of the School wins Best in State for VAASL Media Competition

VAASL (Virginia Association of School Librarians) just announced that MBK Media has won first place in their media competition for 2014.  This video highlights the amazing library staff we have at Meadowbrook High School and why it is extremely important to have an effecient and valued library in each and every school!  The library is more than just a house of books.  It is the culminating pulse of information in the school today.  Check out the award-winning video to see why our Library is the best!
